The Bike Tour hit the sandy beaches of Sandbanks in Poole for the Animal Windfest 2010 this weekend for the rider’s favourite event of the year! As the largest free action sports festival on the South coast, Windfest has built quite the reputation with locals and visitors alike, and 2010’s efforts again did not disappoint.
The tour was surrounded by some awesome action, with the national championships for both kite and windsurfing providing some world class action it was always going to be a good test for the Bike Tour crew to match. As ever there was only one winner and the team pulled out some of their best shows of the year!
Blake said afterwards “Wow. What a weekend. We just felt the momentum building up from the Friday with every show and made it as a big as we could. The crowds were fantastic, Martyn and I felt that we had to give more back so put in some new tricks and they loved it.”
We were lucky enough to have an old friend join the Tour on Sunday as well, with Sam Pilgrim making his return to the Bike Tour action, and as usual provided some amazing tricks and showmanship to get the Sandbanks crowd screaming for more. Fresh from Saturday nights Animal Windfest Superhero party, ‘Super Sam’ donned his outfit once more and took to the skies for four amazing final shows. “I’ve been competing on a huge Freeride World Tour this year but have not seen a wilder crowd at any of the stops – this is what the Bike Tour is all about!!”
Martyn was equally chuffed “I love riding at Sandbanks, the crowd are always so into the show. The weather this year was amazing and Windfest is once again one of our best dates. Blake and myself had some awesome shows on Saturday…we both tried some new stuff because the pressure was on for Sunday. Sam Pilgrim joined us and his level is pretty high, at the moment he is one of the best Dirt Jump riders in the World. We all went for it in every show on Sunday, all four shows were in my opinion some of the best we’ve done this year!”

As usual we were giving a Diamondback Peak HD bike away, and big congratulations goes out to winner Tony Cato who claimed the prize with much surprise “I’ve never won anything before!” – this was a good time to break that habit. A brand new Animal watch also is on its way to Twitter winner DAPBournemouth for their shot of Martyn Ashton’s first EVER jump back onto the balance beam from the Vito!! Nice work guys!
The amazing London Freeze at Battersea in London has just been confirmed as new stop for the Tour in October – keep your eyes and ears peeled for more new dates.
